WPC introduces wirelessly-monitored storage tank emergency vents
New Enardo 2000 model with Smart Wireless technology provides immediate information to help prevent safety emergencies
WPC has introduced wirelessly-monitored Enardo 2000 emergency pressure relief vents (EPRVs) that provide safety control by managing abnormally high storage tank pressures in the oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Under normal operating conditions, an EPRV remains closed. The immediate knowledge of an open position can be vital and should warrant quick investigation. However, because these EPRVs are located on top of storage tanks, they are difficult to monitor. Site managers are increasingly looking for ways to increase safety and efficiencies.
The new product design consists of a proximity indicator and wireless transmitter integrated with an EPRV. The proximity indicator senses movement of the emergency vent. “Open” or “closed” signals are received by the wireless transmitter and can be sent to a control room via a WirelessHART® gateway.
“Though EPRVs represent the last line of defense against tank overpressure, they have largely remained unmonitored,” said Steve Attri, product manager for Emerson Process Management. “Along with the recent introduction of wirelessly-monitored pressure vacuum relief vents (PVRVs), more information is now available to quickly identify and resolve pressure issues that can impact safety and emissions.”

Emerson enhances digital valve controller software to include PROFIBUS protocol
The addition of DTM software extends FIELDVUE instrument’s monitoring and diagnostic capabilities and enables Emerson to support an installed base of 32 million PROFIBUS devices
Emerson has enhanced the software for its Fisher™ FIELDVUE™ DVC6200 series digital valve controllers, which are now available for use by process industries with PLCs and PROFIBUS communications as the dominant protocol. The FIELDVUE DVC6200p digital valve controller with Device Type Manager (DTM) software supports control valve start-up, commissioning, and diagnostic activities. It has also been tested and integrated for use with multiple Field Device Tool (FDT) host systems.
Industries including food and beverage, water and wastewater, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, and metals and mining will find value in the FIELDVUE DVC6200p DTM instrument’s intuitive interface. Available in a variety of materials including stainless steel, the device comes with mounting kits to accommodate different actuators. Mounting kits can be re-used in upgrades to existing FIELDVUE instruments. For control valves located in critical or hazardous areas, the FIELDVUE DVC6200p may be remotely mounted to enhance its performance in harsh process conditions such as high-heat or vibration.
Utilizing Human-Centered Design concepts, the FIELDVUE DVC6200p DTM has several features that simplify control valve set-up and monitoring. Its intuitive setup, auto-calibration, and simple tuning features save time during commissioning. With the failsafe option, users can set the instrument to hold its last value or position to actuator fail, based on control valve process needs. By incorporating control logic, module assignment, and linkage-less, non-contact sensor technology, the FIELDVUE DVC6200p digital valve controllers and DTM are easy to install, provide “plug and play” capabilities, and perform reliably – even in harsh environments.

WPC introduces wirelessly-monitored storage tank safety valves
New Enardo 850/950 Series with Smart Wireless technology provides immediate information to help prevent safety and emissions problems
WPC has introduced the Enardo 850/950 series of wirelessly-monitored pressure vacuum relief valves (PVRVs) that provide safety and emissions control by managing the pressure in storage tanks in the oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
The pressure in storage tanks fluctuates due to changes in temperature, liquid level, or both. A PVRV opens and closes in response to these pressure fluctuations to ensure that safe pressure levels are maintained. However, because these PVRVs are located on the top of storage tanks, they are difficult to monitor. Site managers are increasingly looking for ways to increase safety and efficiencies. Emerson’s new wireless solution enables immediate response to prevent problems related to safety, emissions, and the quality of a tank’s content.
“Until now, PVRVs have remained unmonitored, with no feedback loops commonly seen in other pressure control devices. As the tank’s primary pressure control device, this wirelessly-monitored solution can be invaluable,” said Steve Attri, product manager for Emerson Process Management.
